Awards: ITS "Project of the Year" 2017

This year, the ITS Midwest “Project of the Year” award breaks the usual routine by recognizing two projects in a tie as winners.

The 2017 ITS Midwest “Project of the Year” award for the Most Outstanding ITS Project had seven nominations this year, including:

  • An Adaptive Signal Control system performance study for IDOT in Champaign conducted by the University of Illinois.
  • A web based construction tracking system (ACTS Program) in Chicago for helping multiple agencies keep informed about their active projects.
  • The Chicago Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) to implement active traffic management for 10 multi-agency systems.
  • Naperville’s Centralized Transportation Management System that integrates four traffic signal systems into one network and incorporates ITS supplementary equipment.
  • The US 33 Smart Mobility Corridor project in ODOT’s Dist. 6, producing 35 miles of fiber that will be used for CV/AV testing in an amazing 3.5 months.
  • The City of Evanston, Illinois’ Arterial Integration Project that address complicated interconnection of several complex arterials.
  • The Ohio River Bridges project (INDOT and KYTC) that provided extensive ITS features on two new bridges and a tunnel connecting Kentucky with Indiana.

For the first time ever, there was a tie. INDOT/KYTC’s Ohio River Bridges project and the Naperville Centralized Transportation Management System.
